Dan Kennedy says going to jail will save your Kindle publishing business

Just spent the past 3 days in Barcelona visiting one of my best friends – in other words, I wasn’t working on my Kindle publishing business

One of the best parts of this lifestyle is that it afford me the ability to take impromptu trips like this.

On the first day, while we were strolling through the gothic quarter at around 2AM after a few drinks, my friend said something very poignant.

“You know, it’s a good thing that I lost my job a few weeks ago – otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to spend any time together”

He then went on to tell me about how since then he’s a) starting a new job which pays him the same amount for less work, which then b) gives him the free time he needs to work on personal projects.

Which got me thinking about something I heard in one of Dan Kennedy’s talks a while ago.

About a trait of highly succesful people, which isn’t often mentioned.

That being, the ability to see all news as good news.

My friend lost his job, but he saw it as a net positive because it made him find a better one and then gave him time to work on his own goals.

A more extreme exmaple of this is the one Dan uses in his talk.

Of a disgraced investment banker who was convicted of insider trading for giving stock tips to a stripper.

I’m not kidding, that really happened.

It doesn’t seem like any good news could come of this right?

The banker was professionally ruined, and in the news for all the wrong reasons.

However, while this former banker was sitting in his cold jail cell, 66 of his former colleagues were in their offices on the 81st floor of the World Trade Center on September 11th 2001.

Without going into too many tragic details, being in jail saved his life.

So next time you run into a problem in your publishing business or otherwise – remember…

All news is good news.
